History of Plumas Superior Court
Plumas County was formed in 1854, carved from the eastern portion of Butte County. H.J. Bradley, a rancher who named Quincy after his hometown in Illinois, provided a crude log building with a shake roof from his American Ranch to serve as the county's first courthouse. The current Plumas County Courthouse, a classically inspired structure designed by architect George Sellon, was completed in 1921. Constructed using reinforced concrete and stucco, it features blue and gray marble floors and stairways sourced from Tuolumne County. Over the years, it has become a cherished landmark, celebrated for its architectural beauty and historical significance.
